April 28, 2006 - Our Fastest Server Goes Online!!

Starting on April 26, 2006 we will be moving www.blackhawktobaccoshop.com to our new upgraded dedicated server. Unfortunately, due to dns propagation, it could take anywhere between 24 to 48 hours (April 28th) to resume normal operations. During this period, please use one of our other sites.

blackhawktobacco.com
blackhawktobaccoshop.com
skydancercigarettes.com

The new dedicated server is currently the fastest server that we, or any other tobacco shop, have in operation. Some of its finer points are its Dual Xeon processing chip, three SCSI hard drives configured with RAID Level 1 which increases our delivery speed by 3 times that of a single hard drive and 4 GB's of Random Access Memory (RAM).

You don't have to wait until April 28th to use the server. We have already set up or latest site: blackhawktobaccoshop.com. It is fully operational though the site is scaled down and does not include either the link directory nor this newsletter. If you would like to place an order on the new server, please visit either blackhawktobaccoshop.com or click here.

New Film - Thank You For Smoking   top

As a smoker, I was very skeptical about going to see Jason Reitman's dèbut film, Thank You For Smoking. Considering how most of the country has become very anti-smoker, I figured this movie would be just another bash against smokers. I was pleasantly surprised, however, at the equality of the humor and I laughed at both sides of the issue.

The movie is not, however, just a silly comedy. It has a lot to say. As I make it well known, I believe in the right of people to make their own decisions about whether to smoke or not. However, this movie does make you stop and think about how some lobbyists and government officials are able to sleep at night and by which morals they live. Without adequate information, or in some cases purposeful misinformation, a person can't make an accurate choice. (As we always say about the smoking issue, stay informed.)

Thank You For Smoking has a wonderful cast and the cameos are plentiful. I especially like Sam Elliot, playing the dying "Marlboro Man" and Robert Duvall as "The Captain". Both were superb!

Though there are many different sub plots, but the overall scope of the movie centers around the smoking vs. non-smoking issue. Who would have thought we would be losing our rights to decide whether to smoke or not. That such a movie exists shows just how far things have gone. Even though this movie definitely isn't going to change anyone's perception of smokers or smoking (anti-smokers firmly believe in their self-proclaimed, superior moral judgment and authority), it still pokes fun at the actual fight that is currently going on in the tobacco industry and across the United States.

Thank You For Smoking won't make all smokers laugh and it will probably even make a few of the more sensative angry. Nevertheless, for those who are a little open-minded and like to laugh, even if the joke comes close to home, I recommend it.

Tip! The kidnapping scene is one of my favorites. Who ever thought that building a nicotine tolerance could actually save your life?

Carbon Monoxide
  top

You see these warnings on your cigarette packs and on all forms of cigarette advertising. Recently, we added the warning to all the pages of our website. After seeing, Thank You For Smoking, we want to be perfectly clear about the issues involved. We don't mind talking about it. It is a fact that burning carbon-based matter admits carbon monoxide.

Carbon based-matter includes plants, wood, the grass in your front yard, the burning logs in a fireplace, tobacco leaves, your cigarettes, Native Cigarettes and even your home grill stuffed with red hot charcoal (even if it is topped with a sizzling steak). If you smoke anything, you are inhaling carbon monoxide. We aren't going to lie to you. Those are the facts. Like we always say, stay informed.

To be perfectly clear, here's a definition of carbon monoxide, as found in the Internet by searching "define: carbon monoxide" in Google. This particular definition comes from a document called, "The Clean Air Act Definitions".

"Carbon monoxide (CO) - A colorless, odorless, poisonous gas, produced by incomplete burning of carbon-based fuels, including gasoline, oil, and wood. Carbon monoxide is also produced from incomplete combustion of many natural and synthetic products. For instance, cigarette smoke contains carbon monoxide. When carbon monoxide gets into the body, the carbon monoxide combines with chemicals in the blood and prevents the blood from bringing oxygen to cells, tissues, and organs. The body's parts need oxygen for energy, so high-level exposures to carbon monoxide can cause serious health effects with death possible from massive exposures. Symptoms of exposure to carbon monoxide can include vision problems, reduced alertness, and general reduction in mental and physical functions. Carbon monoxide exposures are especially harmful to people with heart, lung and circulatory system diseases."

Now that I have reprinted that, I still would like to point out one small thing that's bothering me. Burning gasoline releases carbon monoxide. The Clean Air Act is trying to clean up the air through carbon emissions from factories and automobiles, not from smokers.

Why are there no warning labels on cars? Clearly an automobile burning 20 gallons of gas at an idle is producing more carbon emissions than I am in the same amount of time (even if I chain smoke). Does that seem fair?

We love the Internet. That's a fact. Long before we started to provide a mail order service to our local customers, we saw the Internet as the future of shopping. For those of us who like to go shopping, but don't necessarily have the time to drive all over the country, there is hardly a better way to search and find bargains, special editions and low prices than surfing through the ever expanding World Wide Web.

For those of you who would like to have a garage sale, but don't have the time or would like to sell stuff at one of the large Internet auction sites but don't have the money, we have created Black Hawk Classifieds for you. It's simple to start, easy to manage and has an unbelievable price. It's free.

Forces International- The Last Voice of Freedom

Forces.org is a website every smoker needs to know. I am not going to spend a lot of time telling you why they are the greatest source of anti-anti-smoker information. Instead, here are some excerpts. Read them for yourselves:

"Pharmaceutical Multinationals:
Buying Governments, Selling Antismoking

The undeniable connection between antismoking propaganda and the pharmaceutical industry -- or: ministries at the service of multinationals.

It is not a coincidence that the pharmaceutical giants pay antismoking activists all over the world to instigate hysteria and mass hatred against smokers. The goal of this marketing campaign, which involves even well-known names of international medicine, is quite clear: the smoker, frightened by the disinformation, tormented even by his kids (who get brainwashed in school), thrown out from public places and workplaces – and finally hated by society – tries to quit to conform. But, since he is told he is an “addict”, he must turn to the help of his doctor, who either sends him to a quit-smoking centre or prescribes the “therapy” directly, depending on the business arrangements made with Big Pharma [SIC].

With public money, therefore, a private enterprise that is based on persecution is promoted – a persecution that goes after the very segment of the public that pays for that kind of marketing, using “public health” to induce the people to change their behaviour through using false and biased information, to satisfy the financial needs of private colossuses.

This is the chilling reality of the Fraud of the Century and documentation from two major pharmaceutical manufacturers corroborates the mountain of evidence (not the statistical one!...) we are accumulating."

July 24 - Anti-tobacco Paragon Of Virtue

"Senator Edward M. Kennedy, a longtime proponent of tobacco regulation, is spearheading legislation that would give the Food and Drug Administration oversight of the tobacco industry, including the marketing of cigarettes. He says he is doing it for the children. He especially wants to eliminate all advertising of tobacco products to shield the young from the insidious messages of seduction dispensed by the evil cigarette manufacturers. St. Edward, protector of the innocent.

We'll leave the arguments against Kennedy's bill and those in support of free speech and free choice to his peers in the Senate. We will instead take a 33-year trip down memory lane to July 19, 1969, to an event in Kennedy's life that will forever define him.

Near midnight on July 18 Senator Edward Kennedy drove off of the Dike bridge into Poucha Pond in Chappaquiddick, MA. Kennedy was able to exit the vehicle and swim to shore. His passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, did not survive. Kennedy did not report the accident to the police for ten hours. Kopechne, a campaign worker was seven days shy of her 29th birthday. Kennedy and Kopechne had been at a party on the island and were on their way to the ferry to return to Edgartown. The party was made up of six married men and six single women.

John Farrar, the rescue diver who examined the Chappaquiddick accident scene, was convinced that Mary Jo Kopechne had not only survived the crash, but had also lived for some time by breathing a pocket of trapped air. Farrar did not believe that she had drowned, but instead had died by asphyxiation as the oxygen in the air she was breathing was used up and replaced with carbon dioxide. "She was alive, easily an hour, maybe two," he said."

July 22 - Hospital Carnage - About 103,000 deaths were linked to hospital infections in 2000 a figure 14 percent higher than government estimates and nearly 75 percent of the deaths were preventable, the Chicago Tribune reported. According to the report, infection rates are soaring nationally, exacerbated by hospital cutbacks and carelessness by doctors and nurses, and serious violations of infection-control standards have been found in the majority of hospitals.

One big difference between these appalling figures and the numbers of deaths attributed to tobacco use is that the deaths-by-hospital numbers represent actual people. Unlike the computer-generated tobacco deaths, these are real people who are real dead. Worse, the deaths are preventable but it's so much more fun and so very much more profitable to allocate billions of dollars to wage a war against smoking even though the death rate is speculative and highly inflated. Public health should look inward rather than shaking down and demonizing smokers.
